I am one of the Senior Consultants for Grow the People (under the Grow the Story brand). I love the work we do together.
The team at Grow the People work in several different ways with clients. In development, for example, delivering single workshops, facilitating global team sessions, supporting as part of a wider global curriculum, or using crafted full programmes of learning. Methods used, whilst fun and engaging, are underpinned by solid research and theory.
So far I have worked with Simon and Amanda, co-facilitating for Warner Music (Classical) senior leaders, a session as part of a wider strategy conference in Paris.
Next I am working with the L&D team at Warner Music to explore how I can support their staff to develop social media skills. Watch this space, it will be interesting!
Since 2017 I have been involved in a variety of projects for the CIPD. CIPD engaged me to redesign one of their management development programme offerings. I enjoyed working as part of a small team of facilitators to review current content and redesign elements for a new ‘people development’ programme. I will facilitate the workshops as part of the pilot.
I am also the Expert Speaker on one of the L&D Level 5 qualifications offered by AVADO for CIPD. I present and discuss with the students the Social and Collaborative Learning Module online live class.
I have an Associate contract with CIPD to support and facilitate a variety of workshops within the management and leadership portfolio of courses.
In a voluntary capacity, I was the Vice Chair of the Central London Branch. Volunteering in the role since June 2016 – June 2019, it is great to give back to my professional network and colleagues.
I have seen Fiona display her exceptional skills as facilitator when delivering CIPD courses and other events such as ‘unconferences’. Fiona is very knowledgeable and can share that knowledge in helpful and supporting ways while using her facilitation skills to draw out the knowledge in a room. Fiona is also a great online facilitator able to engage people and maintain their interest and attention in virtual classrooms and webinars. Fiona is very principled, honest, reliable and a pleasure to work with and I personally look forward to working with her again soon – Giorgia Gamba Quilliam, CIPD Digital Learning Portfolio Manager
In 2017 I collaborated with Tim Scott and Gemma Dale at The Work Consultancy to design and facilitate a 1-day workshop for a major public sector healthcare organisation who were looking to train their HR and recruitment teams in how to get more social.
Their aim was to upskill staff from across the country in social media, enabling them to build their employer brand for the future and to attract candidates in a competitive market.
During the event, we focused on activities that encouraged the development of knowledge and skills, building confidence and thinking about how to apply these things back in their usual setting. It was important to create a space for sharing and learning from each other and so we brought in some good practice examples from other industries and within their sector and allowed plenty of time for facilitated discussion.
Delegate feedback…… ‘by far the best social media or recruitment course I have ever been on’.
The Royal National Institute of Blind People are a wonderful charity to work with. The fundraising team managers got in touch with me as they wanted design and facilitation support for a large team awayday.
We worked together to design a day which enabled the teams to come together, build relationships and remember why they were there, doing what they do.
The facilitation team on the day were Phil Willcox and Simon Heath, they both ensured a successful day happened.
I started working with the lovely team at The Honeycomb Works (THCW) in late 2016. I worked with them and their clients on great learning interventions. To date, I have designed and facilitated a variety of workshops, introduced action learning sets for new managers, plus provided one-to-one career coaching sessions for their clients.
THCW approached me in August 2017 to design and facilitate further management development workshops for one of their new clients. I love working collaboratively with other great learning and development professionals and enjoyed working with them throughout 2017 & 2018.
We look for partners who inspire and enable long-term behavioural change and this is where Fiona really excels. Whether through facilitation or individual coaching, Fiona’s supportive, inquiry-based style allows space for people to find their own direction and take control of their development.
She loves to explore new ways of doing things – not innovation for the sake of it but to find the best possible ways of helping people become better at what they do. Try one of her unconferences and you’ll see what I mean!
Fiona is always a pleasure to work with and her approach is highly collaborative – with us, our clients and with learners; very much a partner in the true sense of the word – Melissa Sabella, Founder & CEO of The Honeycomb Works
I worked with the brilliant L&D team at Tate mid 2016 – 2018, to design and facilitate interactive workshops for their staff. We explored social media and its place within learning, professional development and networking.
Also, I facilitated several workshops on the subject of Personal Learning Networks (PLN). We all have different ways we learn and interact with those around us – but how often do we stop and reflect on how that is working for us and if we need to do things differently?
In July 2017 I designed and facilitated an UnConference for Tate Managers. This event was the first UnConference to happen at Tate and the day went exceptionally well.
July 2018 saw another UnConference happen at Tate, this time for the PLUS Tate network. It was a brilliant day, a truly different way for this networking group to share knowledge and experience, additionally share ideas and build connections.
I have worked with Fiona during my time with the Tate Galleries in order to enhance the staff development offer. Fiona designed and delivered really engaging programmes on social media and personal learning networks as well as Tate’s first Unconference for Managers. Fiona is great at making connections and brings the joy of learning in all her work – Vilma Nikolaidou, Head of OD
In 2016 I worked with the Content & Design team at DPG to review and refresh modules on their online CIPD Level 5 Learning and Development qualification.
I worked to design sections of the e-learning which focused on helping students studying the qualification to understand the context of L&D in their organisations. I collaborated with the DPG team via regular Skype calls and messaging through Slack (online team communication tool).
I began working with this client at the start of 2015; I was initially asked to facilitate several core personal development workshops; these covered various topics including Emotional intelligence, Building Positive Relationships and Assertiveness.
During our time working together, I advised and supported the L&D Team to help increase the effectiveness of their learning and development offering. Together with the L&D Manager, we worked to make sure workplace learning was as effective as it could be. I designed pre and post-course activities to help support the learning and ensure greater application of new skills when back in the workplace.
Throughout 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 I facilitated many workshops plus delivered on the OHG management development programme.
Fiona supports One Housing in delivering a range of L&D needs. She’s helped us deliver the following:
- delivering training on our management development programme
- carrying out learning needs analysis across the business
- delivering training for our personal development programme
- developing resources and content for instructor-led training.
She’s very well organised in her work, and really sets out to understand the organisation and what makes it work. One of the best pieces of feedback we had from a delegate on our of courses was “Oh, I thought she was staff.”
Personally, I’ve collaborated with Fiona on facilitating events for the L&D Connect community. She has a really good mind for L&D and understands how to design and deliver modern learning solutions – Sukh Pabial, Head of OD, OHG
I worked with Broadreach as an Associate Facilitator for 18 months. I came onboard to facilitate a number of Management and Leadership Development Programmes for new and existing managers.
Additionally, I was asked to work as part of the Broadreach design team to review and refresh the programme content and flow for one of their major clients.
Throughout 2015 and early 2016 I facilitated a variety of these workshops.
We have had the good fortune to work with Fiona on a number of high profile client programmes and found her to be a truly excellent addition to our team.
Firstly, Fiona is very intelligent and able to quickly grasp the context of the client’s industry sector along with the unique challenges they maybe facing. She is able to connect rapidly with delegate teams, talking their language, which commands impact and presence. Secondly, Fiona is a first class facilitator who is able to use a broad range of skills to draw out a depth of honesty in everyone that drives profound levels of learning. In short, I very much hope we will have the opportunity to work with Fiona much more in the future. (Director, Broadreach Ltd)
