Belbin Team Roles are used to identify people’s behavioural strengths and weaknesses in the workplace. This information can be used to:

  • Develop high-performing teams
  • Build beneficial working relationships
  • Raise self-awareness and personal effectiveness
  • Build mutual trust and understanding.

The Team Roles that Belbin identified are used widely in thousands of organisations all over the world today. I have introduced Belbin Team Roles to many different types of teams within different industries and we see it add value every time.

By identif12998 Accredited-YELLOW-HIGH RES_SMLying our Team Roles, we can ensure that we use our strengths to our advantage and that we manage our weaknesses as best we can. Ultilising a profiling tool like Belbins Team Roles it can help you to understand your role within a particular team, you can develop your strengths and manage your weaknesses as a team member, and so improve how you contribute to the team.

At Fiona McBride Consulting I often work with teams and using the Belbin model help develop teams to grow and develop therefore becoming more effective and positive.

Teams can become unbalanced if all team members have similar styles of behaviour or team roles. If team members have similar weakness, the team as a whole may tend to have that weakness. If team members have similar teamwork strengths, they may tend to compete (rather than co-operate) for the team tasks and responsibilities that best suit their natural styles. Knowing this, we can assist teams to use the model to help ensure that necessary team roles are covered, and that potential weaknesses among the team member are addressed and team strengths identified.
